Cyclades
The Cyclades, a group of islands in the middle of the Aegean Sea. The 24 inhabited and more than 170 uninhabited islands are scattered around the sacred island of Delos, a position in which they have owe their collective name Cyclades (Greek Kykladen > kyklos = circle). This archipelago was caused by earthquakes, landslides and volcanic eruptions.
Although the islands of the Cyclades are close together, each of these islands has its own character in terms of landscape, architectural style (color), specific dishes etc.
To this island group includes the following islands: Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antikeros, Antiparos, Delos, Donoessa, Folegandros, Ios, Irakleia, Kea, Keros, Kimolos, Koufonisia, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Schinoussa, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Syros, Thirasia, Tinos.
In the summer brings the Meltemi, a wind from the north or northeast, the necessary cooling.
The Cyclades are also famous for the small modern looking and made of white marble statues (idols) without face and nose. The geometric cut-outs (original from the period between 4000 and 1100 BC) usually suggested a woman. Today, the reproduced frames are a popular souvenir for many tourists.
