Skopelos is a very popular island. The capital Chora is like an amphitheatre built on a mountainside containing a Kastro. The white houses are equipped with tiles covered roofs. Most window frames and doors have often traditional beige or brown tones. The car-free town (only through the boulevard and through a bypass is the city by car access) consists of a maze of streets with many stairs and churches where you can wander for hours.
Skopelos has two ports, one in the capital Skopelos and one in the south of the island by the village Agnontas. If there is much wind from the north, the ferry only arrives and departs from the port in the south. In that case, there is a free shuttle bus to / from the capital of Skopelos.
The church of Agios Ioannis (beautifully situated on a rock along the coast) has become very famous by the movie "Mamma Mia" and become the biggest tourist attraction of the island.
Further on Skopelos many beautiful sandy and pebble beaches to be found. However, the beaches are not always accessible by car, but only by foot or by boat .
On Skopelos there is a good way across the island. Also, the island has a good bus service which most stops on / along the road to the beautiful beaches.
