Zuid-Holland (South-Holland)
The province of South-Holland is located in the west of the Netherlands, on the North Sea. It is bordered to the north by North-Hollland, in the east of Utrecht and Gelderland and in the south of North-Brabant and Zeeland. The island of Goeree-Overflakkee also belongs to the province of South-Holland. The province is highly urban in character, although there are also quite extensive agricultural areas, particularly in the northeast and southwest. South-Holland is a cultural paradise.
Rotterdam is home to one of the largest ports in the world and, inter alia, also known for the cubehouses, "buy gutter" and the market hall.
The capital city is The Hague and is also the political heart of the Netherlands.
Next to these major cities there are many other highlights, such as the beach of Scheveningen, the historical city of Delft (New Church, Old Church, Town Hall, the Delft Blue earthenware factory Royal Delft), the mills at Kinderdijk, the cheese market of Gouda and the flower fields/Keukenhof (look for more information and photos about the flower fields/Keukenhof a separate subject under the Various item on this website ).
