Because of the location of the Saronic islands in the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf they also called Argo-Saronic Islands.
The islands are very small and greatly different from each other. Hydra for example is very dry while Spetses is largely covered by forest. Aegina and Salamina are very close to Athens. Hydra, Poros and Spetses are opposite the Peloponnese.
The largest islands are surrounded by small islands such as Dokos, Agkistri and Spetsopoula. Also Methana Peninsula (located in Argolida on the Peloponnese) belongs to this group of islands.
Due to the several boat connections between the islands is tourism booming. Especially on the weekends, are the islands very popular with the people of Athens.
