Drenthe
Drenthe is located in the northeast of the Netherlands and is one of the greenest provinces in the Netherlands. It is bordered to the north of Groningen, in the east is the border of Germany, in the south Overijssel and in the west Friesland. The province covers some 65 kilometres from north to south and 65 kilometres from east to west and has roughly the shape of a triangle. The capital is Assen.
The province is inextricably linked with "hunebedden" (dolmens/megaliths). Drenthe has no less than 54 of these graves built around 3000 BC. The Borger Hunebed Centre explains to you how these tombs were made with stones weighing up to 40 tons each. Other highlights of the province are the zoo Dierenpark Emmen and former (2nd World War) concentration camp Westerbork.
The peace and quiet of this beautiful province is only disturbed once a year during the Assen TT. Over 100.000 motorcycle fans come to watch the world's best bikers and bikes on the Dutch Grand Prix circuit.
