Zagoria is a beautiful mountainous region of Epirus. It is originally a Slavic name, "za" means namely behind and "gora" means mountains. Greeks call it the Zagorochoria area (literally "beyond the mountains" ) .
The area consists of 46 villages, of which about 44 are inhabited. The houses have a typical Zagori - style. Built a sort of gray slate houses with thick roofs of the same material and narrow alleys in the often small villages in perfect harmony with their natural surroundings.
Zagoria is a very popular hiking area because of the beautiful natural areas (National Park Aoos / Vikos). In the National Park live wolves, deer, bears, foxes, martens, etc. Then there are the breathtaking beautiful villages and typical arch bridges. In earlier times there was a bell in this type of bridge. As it stood, that was a warning that there was too much wind and so you better not cross.
